practical
projects
Below are
some examples of projects that SICM has been involved with over the
years. Some of the projects are in the past tense, in the sense that
they have been completed and are now being run by the nationals. Others
are ongoing, and some will never reach a conclusion, as there will always
be opportunity to increase the amount of help that we can give. But
with all of our projects we try to avoid the situation of simply giving
money. What we try to encourage is a 'helping hand' attitude, so that
people don't see what we do as a 'hand-out' but rather as something
that will enable them to then help themselves.
If you or
your church is interested in getting involved in a practical project,
then get in touch with us. You don't have to actually fund the whole
project but can contribute to a part. And when it comes to working in
Africa, even the smallest gift can make the difference.

Ghana
- orphanage
This
was a project that we undertook a few years back in rural Ghana.
It is now completed and up and running. The photograph on the
areas of work page alongside
the 'practical projects' section is of the building when it was
finally finished. The image on the left shows some of the first
children to stay in the orphanage.
The
support for the orphanage came in from a number of sources including
The Net, a Christian organisation based in the Black County of
England, who adopted the project and provided much of the funding
to ensure that it came to fruition. Previously many children found
themselves abandoned without hope, but the orphange has become
a place of refuge.

Uganda
- building wells in rural villages
Access to fresh water
is a massive problem across Africa. The health of people is seriously
affected to the point where many lives are lost because of the
situation. Yet for a relatively small amount we are able to turn
the situation around. For £600 (approximately US $1200)
we can build a well that will serve the local community. The photograph
on the left shows one that was constructed in the village of Akoboi
in May 2007. This was sponsored by Providence Baptist Church near
Wolverhampton, England.
