(Proverbs 1:3. The Message)
I bought a chainsaw a while back. Not only did I have to find out how to set it up but also how it worked. I didn't just start messing, pulling, poking and hammering. Instead I went to the manual that came with it. The manufacturer's instructions. And that's what the Bible is, the maker's manual for living. When we ignore what the manufacturer says and do it our own way, that's when things go horribly wrong. God has given us very detailed, yet at the same time, easy to follow instructions. Whether we follow them or not is up to us of course. But when things go wrong in our lives we shouldn't be surprised if we have ignored the manual and done our own thing. Life's hard enough as it is without making it even harder.
